the early mornings are here... since Fiesta/JOB is consuming my time most evenings I am starting to run in the mornings... and despite the painful agony of waking up at 5:45-6am, once I am out running with the nice morning, breeze it is worth it. Yesterday morning I had a great run at 6:30- ran 4.5 miles. Was sore for work but it felt great! I was actually mostly conscious and functioning by the time I walked into the office. This morning I met up with a running buddy who lives down University, we ran in each others direction til we ran into each other- and then ran 5.5 miles-- up some hills and around Balboa Park, it was AWESOME :)
now its 9:30 am I am at work and I want an ice pack for my feet and a nap.
Half Marathon, I am going to own you! :)
this group of cross country runners decided to raise funds AND awareness about the Darfur Genocides, they ran 1300 miles from Kansas to the Capital, this is AMAZING!!! They also raised 25, 000 dollars!
How inspiring is this? Imagine getting huge groups of runners and doing political running (sort of like the bicyclists with critical mass?) Remember when we were younger and would have people pay us like a dollar for every mile or lap or whatever??? It could apply for adults! :) Is anyone else as excited with this concept as I am?
hmm...maybe not but you should be!
What's your favorite time of day and why?
The evening with about an hour of daylight left... its a pleasant time for taking long walks, for running along the beach, for contemplation. Its also early enough that the evening is full of promise. You can still potentially have that glass of wine, meet up with friends or a significant other, or relax with a book...
What's your favorite type of donut?
Submitted by tomatshonino.
I prefer that a donut is not absent.
That it is not invisible.
Has chocolate and a cream filling and likes to discuss politics.
I love how sort of ridiculous this article is:
"Auto executives have been startled by the rapid shift this year by consumers from bigger vehicles like pickups and S.U.V.’s into small cars and lightweight crossovers."
“This seismic shift in the marketplace has definitely taken us and everybody else by surprise,” said George Pipas, Ford’s market analyst."
REALLY, you are seriously blown away that, many americans, in their usual self imposed bubble of abundance have finally realized that driving only slightly smaller version of buses is not economically viable?
Thats the frustrating part, not unless its starts hurting financially, we don't give a damn about the environment and the impact that our obsession towards larger cars has. People are still not getting the smaller car to help the environment, they are doing it to save money....but I digress... the point is, that these car companys seem to be genuinely surprised that their smaller cars are selling at a crazy rate... have they missed the news stories or have they not pumped gas in the last half year????
fiesta del sol, a fantastic combination of stress so strong im getting white hairs, inspiration so strong, i keep looking back at my shoulders to see if ive sprouted physical wings from my hope, happiness,...and pressures, day in and out... its about mediating between groups, making sure things get done, and being strong and ingratiating... yikes! at the same time as preparing for my academic return...
it is quite clear that I need to start my day earlier to continue my running training...
so its this morning, the sheets are sooo cozy, im in complete comfort sprawled out on my bed... and... then i hear....
"atrevetete, salte del closet, levantate ponte hyper" my calle 13 song which functions as alarm, goes off!
groaning i press buttons until the cursed thing stops... and snooze until.... 5 minutes later, the previous scenario plays out again...
6:30 am, I am out on robinson, onto park and around balboa, im feeling sluggish at the end but nothing beats the breeze on my sweaty skin, the music bumping from the ipod nano...
GOOD MORNING NORMITA :)

this website has a little prompt generator thats kinda cool
todays prompt:
List ten textures you enjoy touching-
fleece- large fluffy sweaters feel great on cold yuck winter days... great to cuddle in
flimsy cotton- soft, soft barely there cotton chonies, shirts, shorts, skirts.... yay!
linen- light, breezy airy on the skin
human touch-I guess technically would be skin, which sounds kinda weird-- "i like touching skin?"
but enough said, its our innate nature to enjoy embraces, hugs, massages and kisses :)
puppy and other fluffy animal fur- sooo soft and apparently made from clouds
silk- jammies on freshly bathed skin-- whee!
sand- does this count, frolicking at the beach and feeling sand in between my toes
ehhh okay so only 7 but you get it, typing this makes me want to go rub a puppy on my cheek!
sorry for the depressing poem, This is how I imagine many people must feel at their jobs or how I would feel to remain here....
Death by Boredom
We are gathered here to send off this person
who expired before their time
their body remains alive, but the mind, it is gone.
it started of well for them
lots of running around, fresh clean air and interaction with people and animals
it slowly deteriorated as they got older
they began as slaves inside sterile air conditioned offices
in front screens that demanded all of their attention.
these screens they taunted, stressed, and entertained.
became surrogates for interaction amongst themselves
Forced to sit day after day after day...
at the mercy of the men with lots of power, even more money, boundless priviledges and no conscience
Now they were searching for knowledge
lots and lots of it, but mostly useless...
the bonds with their fellow people slowly faded
they no longer cared to fight discrimination, injustice, to feel compassion for the needy, no.
instead they would jump up from restless sleep and realize that they had not stirred for days
had not gotten up
slowly their feet curled and dried into plugs and bits of robotic appliances
the eyes glazed over and lost their color
they began eating, sleeping and spewing information and numbers
the brain went numb.
they sat down one morning and never disconnected.
now they are gone and what remains sits on the chair not quite human not quite computer
with no feelings at all. not a one.
What do you do when you get a crush on someone?
Submitted by Desi.
I draw pictures of fantastical creatures for them, like ligers
Sometimes I will buy them an eggplant and glue googly eyes to it.
I listen to cheesy fluffy music.
I take trips to the moon and tell her my secret.
She tells me she will keep my secret but then
whispers through her moonlight to my crush.
I frolick.
The Paradox Of Our Age:
We have bigger houses but smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense;
more knowledge but less judgment;
more experts, but more problems;
more medicines but less healthiness.
We've been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble in crossing the street to meet our new neighbour.
We built more computers to hold more copies than ever,
But have less real communication;
We have become long on quantity,
but short on quality.
These are times of fast foods but slow digestion;
Tall men but short characters;
Steep profits but shallow relationships.
It's a time when there is much in the window
But nothing in the room.
--His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
Great idea. I'm inspired, what about political frolicking? We can easily get a mass of frolickers! read more
